Case Description
Hi.

I am a type 1 diabetic female who grew up very poor, and as a result never saw a dentist until I was 20 years old. During my teen years I did not manage my diabetes as I do now, and as a result (my dentist told me) I have slower healing times, etc and gum issues.

I started my treatment which included, deep cleaning, planing and scaling, 6 fillings, a rootcanal with a crown, and then went on to braces. After the braces I was to return for veneers. Unfortunately, I went through a divorce and could not afford to go back (I had already invested over 13k on my mouth).

So here I am years later. In the past two years I have saved up 10k to go back in for aggressive treatment. (I have periodontitis)..The other day I was flossing and knocked loose a piece of the back of my front tooth, and now I am horrified. I take as good of care as I can, but wuth the gum disease, etc..if feels like I cant stay on top of it despite my efforts!

I am terrified of the dentist, but need to know what I can get for 10k. What can I expect? Can I get veneers? or would the cost be soley on more fillings, root canals, etc?

I am EXTREMELY embarrassed of my mouth, so I need a dentist who is understanding.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi,

It sounds like you have been dealing with this for some time and I am sure just having a game plan to get things going would be helpful. My sister-in-law, who is also a part time dental assistant for me, is a T-1 diabetic as well. You do face some more difficult challenges than those that don't have diabetes, but none that should keep you from having a healthy mouth. My advice would be to come in for a cosmetic consultation. Therre is no cost involved and I can actually look at what is going on and give you some advice. Plus, you can see how you feel about us before committing to anything. You need to feel comfortable about what is being done to your mouth as well as who is working on it. I can't give you a fee range right now, because I am not really sure what is going on. But, you should be able to get alot accomplished with what you have saved. I hope this helps.

Dr. Nabors.

As Dr Nabors said, it is very hard to see what is going on without looking at the patient individually. There are many great dentists in Nashville who would be happy to advise you on what your needs are. I always advise patients to go with the heart. When you feel in your heart that the dentist has your best interest then you should go with it. Please feel free to view our web site at www.kempdental.com for some information about our office and I would be more than happy to give you a consultation. If I can help in any way please feel free to call my office.

Yours truely,

Phillip Kemp
